Germany is home to Europe's third and fourth largest tech hubs, Berlin and Munich. This makes it one of the best countries for software developers, including React developers. Here, we'll look at average salaries for React developers at each stage of their careers and how they compare to the average JavaScript developer's salary.
Average junior React developer salary trends
Junior React developers with at least two years of experience start at an average salary of €45 822, 3.2%, or €1 413, more than their average JavaScript counterparts.
Once they pass the four-year mark, however, React developers can expect a 19.8% pay increase. This gives them an average annual salary of €54 904.
This jump widens their advantage over mid-level JavaScript developers to 9.2%, or €4635.
Why the significant increase? Developers typically move jobs more frequently in the early stages of their careers. Joining a new company allows developers an opportunity to negotiate a higher market-related salary than they might earn through annual increases at one employer.
Average React Developer Salaries by Experience
Average Salary by Years Experience, showing 25th and 75th percentiles
Years of Experience | 25th Percentile | Average | 75th Percentile |
---|---|---|---|
2-4 | €33,500 | €45,822 | €60,000 |
4-6 | €45,810 | €54,904 | €63,500 |
6-10 | €48,600 | €62,981 | €76,750 |
10-15 | €63,002 | €77,139 | €87,000 |
Average senior React developer salary trends
Senior React can expect a 14.7% pay rise once they pass the six year-mark, giving them an annual salary of €62 981. However, despite this increase, the gap between them and JavaScript developers with comparable experience has narrowed to just 2.1%, or €1 313.
Once React developers pass the 10-year mark, they can expect their salaries to soar by 22.5% to €77 139. Interestingly, this mirrors a similar jump for highly experienced JavaScript developers, who earn just 2.3%, or €1705, less.
Why the considerable increase? Despite React developers usually focusing on front-end development, many highly experienced ones have full-stack capabilities. This allows them to work on both the front and back end, which makes them extremely valuable assets to any employer.
On top of that, senior React developers also typically have experience in things like third-party integrations, libraries and cloud platforms, along with the ability to lead and train teams of other developers.
Keep in mind
The data in this article is taken from StackOverflow's 2022 Developer Survey's open data. In this article, 'salary' refers to the gross annual salary (before tax) provided by 899 survey respondents from Germany who identified as React developers.
We only included salary insights for experience levels with enough data points to ensure that the amounts represent React developers in the country. That's why we've excluded entry-level developers from this article.
We also ran an outlier analysis to identify data points skewing the distribution of salaries. These points were removed from the final dataset to ensure that the amounts are representative of React developers in Germany. We've also included the 25th and 75th percentiles to give you further information about the distribution of salary data.
Average salaries are single data points and only one part of a bigger story. Many respondents may earn significantly more or significantly less than these averages. However, we aim to show underlying trends by mapping the average salaries for different experience levels.
These averages should not be used to estimate what your actual salary will or should be. Salaries depend on the company size, industry, individual, perks and nature of the work. These factors all influence the salary a company will offer to a prospective hire. In addition, most developers are "fluent" in several languages and work across multiple roles, affecting the final figures.
It's also important to remember that every individual's context is different. Salary is a personal conversation that should take place between employee and employer.
